Running errands in Pittsburgh's North Side.
If you find yourself in Pittsburgh's North Side there is lots to see and do. The National Aviary is America's only independent indoor nonprofit zoo dedicated to birds. There are so many great little restaurants to try out, I love Nicky's Thai Kitchen in the summer they have a wonderful outdoor dinning room. Then you can take a stroll around Lake Elizabeth and make sure you seek out Gus and Yia Yia's shaved ice cart!
The North Side has so many places to check out in the art scene: The Warhol Museum, AIR/ Artists Image Resource, the Mattress Factory Museum, and of course the colorful Randyland house !
A few weeks ago I dropped off some greeting cards at the Mattress Factory Gift Shop. For those of you that are not from Pittsburgh or don't really know about this museum is NOT a museum all about mattresses. It is actually a contemporary art museum and experimental lab featuring site-specific installations created by artists in residence from around the world!
The photo I took that afternoon was of the Mattress Factory working on an installation on the roof. The art is by Hans Peter Kuhn and is titled "Acupuncture" rods of light appear to "pierce" through the top floor of the museum floor.
